STUDY 005
TOPIC: THE HOLY SPIRIT
TEXT: JOEL 2:28-29;ACTS 2:1-4
INTRODUCTION:
The Holy Spirit is a divine personality. He is the third person of the Godhead (Trinity). He has been in existence before the world was created (Gen. 1:3) and is the vitalizing power of an effective Christian life and service. The Holy Spirit is available to every child of God, for if any man has not the spirit of God, he is none of His (Rom. 8:9).

A).Why was the Holy Spirit promised? Joel 2:28-29; Jn. 14:16; Acts 1:8; Jn. 16:5-14.

B).Attributes of the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a person and as a person, He has some special attributes. From the following passages, identify His attributes: Rom. 8:27; Eph. 4:30; I Cor. 12:11; Jn. 14:26; Acts 13:2; Rom. 8:16; Jn. 14:16; Acts 16:6-7; I Cor. 2:10; Rom. 8:11; Acts 4:31.

C).Baptism of the Holy Spirit: Matt. 3:11; Acts 2:1-4; Acts 10:44-46.

D).The fruit and Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Gal. 5:22-28; Rom. 12:3-8; I Cor. 12:1-11.

E).Six things you must not do to the Holy Spirit.
i. Don't grieve Him (Eph. 4:30)
ii. Don't lie to Him (Acts 5:8)
iii. Don't neglect Him (I Tim. 4:14)
iv. Don't despise Him (I Thess. 5:20)
v. Don't quench Him (I Thess. 5:19)
vi. Don't blaspheme against Him
(Matt. 2:31).

F).Six things you must do to the Holy Spirit.
i. Fellowship with Him (I Cor. 13:14)
ii. Acknowledge Him (Prov. 3:6)
iii. Appreciate Him
iv. Listen to Him (Rev. 2:29)
v. Obey Him (Actgs 8:29-30)
vi. Give Him the First place in your life and dealings.
G).Seven things the Holy Spirit can do for you.
i. He gives life (Job 33:4; John 6:63)
ii. He reveals God's word to you (I Cor. 2:12; John 14:26).
iii. He gives you the power (ability) to work as a believer (Acts 1:8).
iv. He is the comforter of the Church (John 14:16).
v. He will bring fruitfulness into your life (Isaiah 32:15-16; Ezekiel 367:27-29)
vi. He helps us in our intercessions (Rom. 8:26-27)
vii. He brings excellence into your life (Dan. 6:3; Acts 10:38).

CONCLUSION
The Holy Spirit is available for all believers. He is the promise of the Father. Thirst and desire Him today and make Him number one in your life. In this end time, without Him, we cannot make it. Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? (Acts 19:2).

  STUDY 006 TOPIC:WITNESSING
TEXT:MATT 28: 18-20; JOHN 4:34-38

INTRODUCTION: Our Lord JESUS CHRIST has called every believer to be His witness. Witnessing is a life duty Christ has given to all His disciples. It is a task that is closest to the heart of God. As believers, we are still in the world in order to do the work of witnessing, reconciling man to God (II Cor. 5:18).

A).The Purpose and Importance of Witnessing.
1. (i) The worth of soul (Mark 8:36-38)
(ii) The fact of hell fire (Rev. 21:8)
(iii) The emptiness, folly and vanity of this world (II Peter 3:10-11).
(iv) Christ's suffering and the fact of heaven (John 14:1-3).

2).From the passages below, why must every sincere believer witness for Christ? (Mark 16:15; II Peter 3:9; II Cor. 5:18, 20; I Cor. 9:16-17).

3).From the passages below, state the urgency of soul-winning (John 4:35-36; 1 Cor. 7:29-31; Rev. 20:12; Rom. 13:11-12).

The time for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is very near. There should be no waste of time, excuses or postponement. Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation (II Cor. 6:2). If we delay, the sinners will miss the period of mercy and grace and they would have to face the wrath of God. But their blood would be required from us (Eze. 3:18).

B).The Right Message (The Good News). Acts 8:5, 12; 32-35; I Cor. 1:17, 18; John 3:16-17.
We should preach the mercies, works, goodness, healings of Jesus Christ, but most importantly, Christ crucified for our salvation. As we exalt Christ, we must emphasize total repentance from sin and faith in Christ Jesus (Acts 20:21).

C).The Reward of Witnessing
From the following passages, point out the rewards for witnessing (Prov. 11:25; John 4:36-38; Dan 12:3). The labour of soul winning is not without reward. As the harvester rejoices when his fruits are gathered into the storehouse, so is the soul winner with joy when souls are won to the Lord. The reward for witnessing is also largely in the future, when the saitns shall be gathered home to glory at the great and final harvest. Soul winners, apart from everlasting joy, will also shine as stars forever.

CONCLUSION
Beloved, we cannot go and meet our great Redeemer empty handed. Now is the time to win souls. Let us strive for souls now while there is still time. If anyone would be ashamed to witness for Christ now, the Lord would be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with His Holy angels (Mark 8:38).

STUDY 007 TOPIC:CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TO THE WORLD
TEXT: JOHN 17:13-16; ROMANS 12:1-2;JAMES 4:4

INTRODUCTION:
When a sinner repents and turns to the Lord, he becomes a Christian, one who is born again, called out of the world, and having his heart regenerated and transformed. Though he is in the world, he is not of the world. He becomes a stranger on earth. His hope, citizenship, conversation, treasures and mansions are in HEAVEN. The need for the believer to know how he ought to comport himself in this world in which he lives, cannot be over-emphasized. This world with its pollution has a defiling and corrupting influence. The prayer of our LORD JESUS CHRIST in John 17 for the believer to be kept from the evils of the world, challenges us to check up how we should relate to the world and its system. Remember we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20).

A).The world: When the believer is warned against conforming to the world, the “world” here refers to the evil organizations, systems and patterns of doing things, controlled by Satan. Read and comment oln the following (Eph. 2:1-2; I John 5:19; II Cor. 4:4).

B).The Evils of the World (I John 2:15-16).
1. The lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21).
2. The lust of the eyes.
(i) Covetousness (Luke 12:15)
(ii) Cares of this world (Matt. 13:22)
3. All kinds of evil (Matt. 6:23).
4. The pride of life (Luke 12:16-20)
5. Wisdom of this world (I Cor. 3:19)
6. The fashion of this world (I Cor. 7:31; 1Peter 1:14-15)

This world and its evil system will certainly come to an end indeed; all is vanity (I John 2:17). What should be the attitude of believers to the world? (i) I John 2:15 (ii) Matt. 5:13-16 (iii) Eph. 5:10-12 (iv) Matt. 10:16.

The scripture teaches that the believers should be adorning modestly and sensibly.

CONCLUSION
The world is constantly changing in values and fashions, but the believer is called to live a life of non-conformity to the world and its evil systems. As believers we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Through the power of the gospel and prevailing prayers, let us win the world for Christ, and not allow the world to influence us negatively. Jesus was known to be the friend of sinners but was never mistaken for one. We should truly be Christ-like in this world.
